CJ Hilton is a Grammy-nominated producer, writer, and singer whose music can be best described as a blend of soul and R&B music. CJ Hilton is also a talented multi-instrumentalist in his own right – most of this, in addition to his singing skills, was learned from his days in church. CJ wrote most of his own music and refined his singing talent in the church. Being in love with music his whole life, CJ joined the entertainment industry and never looked back.

CJ Hilton was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and was influenced by watching his father (who was a gospel vocalist) sing. This allows him to grow his natural talent by singing in the church choir. The continued support he received from his family cemented his confidence and desire to explore his music career, which has expanded and evolved. He has worked with famous artists like Raphael Saadiq and Mario.

His impressive talent landed him deals with Backwoods, a DC-based production company known for its popular R&B artist Ginuwine. CJ then was introduced to Sony head Tommy Mattola by Backwoods. He was signed to Tommy Mottola for three months. After the deal didn’t go through, he moved to L.A, where he signed to Capitol Records. This was his first official record deal, and Capitol Records signed him straight out of high school.

After been at Capitol for a couple of years, he decided to switch labels again, and he ended up at J Records, where he released his debut album.

CJ got a rude awakening in the music industry, parting ways with both J Records and RCA Records before his career ever had a chance to take off. But he believes that perseverance will always pay off. With God’s Grace, he is now at a good place with Universal Music Publishing Group.

As a student of Raphael Saadiq, CJ is ready to help lead real soul music back to the forefront with his brand of singing. This helped him build a career in music that matters. Ever since he burst on the scene as a fresh-faced teenager bringing soulful music to the forefront of American culture, the Baltimore native has gained a reputation for making good music that is fun and examines life’s complexity.

Before signing with Universal Music Publishing Group, CJ also made it happen as an independent.

His music also addresses several topics social issues that were otherwise being ignored by the masses. He draws inspiration from his experiences, with topics covering women, to how hard life is in Baltimore, going to parties and having fun, to name a few.” On the track “It Ain’t Easy,” he talks about a widespread experience facing many young parents in Baltimore and the difficulties of dealing with the baby mama.

While he cites influences such as Usher and John Legend, he also admires old-school veterans like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder He talks of representing the old souls from the perspective of a modern artist. Of course, CJ’s long-term goals include winning a Grammy and doing production for other artists.

With the help of fellow Baltimore-native Mario, CJ establishes himself as one of the best R&B artists in the country. With impressive endorsements from top music producers and musicians and natural talent to back up his skills, CJ’s future in R&B is especially bright.
